Biological and ecological features of the species: A sea snail with a shell that has spiny extensions, it bulges at one end and is elongated at the other where it is long and straight. The outer surface is rough and covered with numerous irregular spiral lines. The external colour varies from yellow to brown.

Nutritional qualities: Murex species are marine gastropod mollusks captured in high amounts. Their edible meat is appreciated by consumers inspite of its toughness.
